BMW and TED are organising a unique global competition of ideas - they are looking for the Next Visionaries. Thought leaders, strategists and creative minds from all over the world have applied, and six of them are now presenting their ideas at the IAA.
It is time for the final pitch of the Next Visionaries, an initiative to build a global community engaging innovators, change-makers, dreamers and future thinkers to share their vision for the future of mobility. BMW and TED will introduce the six most inspiring visionaries on the 10th of September.
What is the TED?
Founded in 1984, the first TED conferences were held in Monterey, California. In 2006, TED experimented with putting TED Talk videos online for free – a decision that opened the doors to a radically new model for sharing ideas: today there are more than 2,400 TED Talks available for free on TED.com, which are viewed about a billion times a year. Thanks to the support of thousands of volunteer translators, there are close to 100,000 published translations of TED Talks in over 110 languages. TEDx, the licensing program that allows communities to produce independently organized TED events, has seen 21,500 events held worldwide.
What will happen now?
Before the IAA opens for business, the BMW Group booth will provide the backdrop for a very special event. In spring 2017, BMW i joined forces with the world-famous platform for progressive thinkers TED to launch their Next Visionaries competition. On 10 September, they will present the finalists of the contest, which supports pioneering thinkers seeking a platform in the international arena. Over the last few months, visionaries, strategists and thought leaders from around the world have been invited to submit their ideas of future mobility. At the IAA, the finalists of the competition will present their concepts to a high-profile jury and 500 invited guests at the centre stage of the Vision Loop at the BMW booth.
“The BMW i brand has been demonstrating its pioneering spirit as an innovation leader ever since project i was founded, ten years ago. It is this spirit that unites BMW i and the TED community. Their unique partnership gives thought leaders with inspiring visions of tomorrow’s mobility significant public exposure,” explains Hildegard Wortmann, Senior Vice President Brand BMW.
