BMW CEO Harald Krueger today finally confirmed the production version of the BMW i8 Spyder - a stunning plug-in hybrid roadster.
It was one sentence that Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, made at the Annual Accounts Press Conference in Munich today. One sentence, we waited four years for!
“The award-winning plug-in hybrid sports car BMW i8 will be added to by an open-top BMW i8 roadster.” – the new BMW i8 Roadster will arrive in 2018.
With the new BMW i variant a dream of many BMW fans come true.
Since the company showed the BMW i8 Concept Spyder at the Paris Motor Show back in 2012 we waited … and waited. Back in January there was an updated version of the concept – without doors it showcased how BMW ConnectedDrive will develop into an digital assistance companion, the BMW i Vision Future Interaction.
The open-top BMW i8 Roadster will be built under the codename I15 in Leipzig, Germany.
The i8’s plug-in hybrid powertrain will likely get an updated battery pack and a potential increase in power until 2018. The current i8 makes 360 horsepower and hits 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
