The BMW i8 Concept Spyder debuts at the Paris Motor Show 2012 - here are some pictures!
No matter where they make an appearance: the BMW i3 Concept and the BMW i8 Concept need not complain about too little attention. The BMW i8 Concept Spyder is here in Paris and with its open top attracts – like its “little brother” – yearning glances and camera lights.
BMW is demonstrating here for the first time the Live-Drive Modular Design of the BMW i3. The modular system places batteries and the electric drive under the carbon fibre body. In designing the electric i Series, BMW has rethought the whole idea of the “car” and broken with previous conventions about the placement of motor and machinery. Advantage: The BMW i models allow for complete freedom of design. It is also beneficial for the vehicle handling dynamics. The low centre of gravity and the balanced weight distribution will find its fans among the drivers of all future BMW i vehicles.
No one needs to worry about damaging the carbon fibre body of the BMW i models either. To do so would require much more mechanical force than is needed to deform the massive steel body of a “traditional” BMW. Minor damage can be repaired simply by cutting out the effected carbon fibre piece and pasting new ones in their place.
If you can‘t make it to Paris, you will soon be able to admire the carbon fibre body of the new BMW i3 in the BMW Welt in Munich. That is where the model will find a place after the fair…
