At the kick-off of the first press days of the Geneva International Motor Show 2018 the new BMW X4 is the unrivaled star at the Bavarian’s booth – we were able to inspect the sporty SUV-Coupé from every perspective.
While its twin brother just completed a snowy road trip through the alps, this motor show star arrived safely to its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2018, protected from curious looks in a closed transporter. Finally, the new BMW X4 is displayed in the open, presented from each perspective by strategically placed motor show spotlights.
The second generation of the middle-class SUV-Coupé is 81 millimetres longer, 37 millimetres wider and a bit lower than its predecessor. From the bow to the stern the dynamic off roader now measures 4752 millimetres, the wheelbase has increased by 54 to a total of 2864 millimetres.
In the wake of its premiere in Geneva, the BMW X4 2018 appears in a top model version: X4 M40d. A strong high-performance six-cylinder motor with 326 PS can be found under the hood, that reaches 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds thanks to 680 Nm torque. Despite this, the power diesel is said to need just 6.4 to 6.6 litres diesel.
BMW X4 2018: Four cyclinder-Diesel and-Gasoline engines at the launch
Of course the BMW X4 will also be available in smaller engine versions at the launch. The two four cylinder gasoline engines 20i and 30i with 184 and 252 PS have the standard fitting xDrive-four wheel drive. On the other side, the diesel engines are available in the form of the BMW X4 xDrive20d with 190 PS and the X4 xDrive25d with 231 PS.
Regardless of the motorization, BMW’s engineers promise an exceedingly agile driving behavior – including an accordingly fine-tined chassis technology and, in comparison to its platform contributing X3, a lower center of gravity. With this the new BMW X4 should master the combination of comfort and sports.
The premium character of the middle-class off roader is especially prominent in its interior, in which the driver can expect the standard high-quality materials and – for an additional charge – the complete range of modern assistance systems from gesture control to semi-autonomous driving.
Next to the known equipment line M-Sport with dynamic exterior details, the off road specific X-Line is also available. BMW offers sporty highlights paired with a clearly shown eagerness for off road excursions in the new M Sport X. The price for the new X4 starts at 49,700 Euros for the X4 20i. The basic diesel is listed at 52,500 Euros.
